What is a Art Walk?

An art walk is a destination experience provided by the joint effort of local merchants and artists
to provide a free opportunity to enjoy original art.

There are three ways to participate in the University District Art Walk.

  1. Visit – Use this website to plan your Visit to the businesses hosting locally sourced art during the Art Walk or Event.
  2. Host – Hosting local artists art and art related experiences.
  3. Create – Artists Create art hosted by participating U District merchants.

Visit:

Art Walk

  • The U District Art Walk is officially the third Friday of every month.
  • This is when new art is displayed by participating venues.
  • Following the third Friday, most venues display art during normal business hours.
  • Some venues are open during specific dates/hours for the art walk. Check their exhibit information on our home page.
  • The * Art Hosts ↓ dropdown list on the top of the home page contains links to explore each host, location, contact, and website links.
  • Use our map page with your cell phone, tablet or desktop to get directions to each host.
  • If you can’t make it every month, some hosts will also have artists’ works on their websites.
  • Subscribe to our monthly email notification of the upcoming Art Walk with description of the theme or artist, along with imagery.

  • The U District has other art related events through out the year.
  • These events are listed on the home page of this website.
  • Use our map page with your cell phone to get directions to mosts event hosts.

Host:

  • Hosts are essential to the success of the U District Art Walk.
  • They provide a physical location to help promote the work of local artists and add a positive, creative culture to the “Ave.”
  • Some artists will often compensate hosts if their work is sold. This is an agreement solely between the host and the artist.
  • If your business is in the University District area and you want to become a host, use the Hosts page link at the bottom of the website.

Create:

  • Artists’ works are essential, making the art walk possible.
  • Artists seeking a host should contact the listed venues or collaborate with a U District area business to show their art.
  • ShowYourWork.org website is a good resource to empower artists to showcase their art not only in the U District but the Pacific Northwest.
