Constelaciones y Supernovas
UW Planetarium Arts is excited to partner with Colectivo Arte GUENDA, an intergenerational women’s art collective based in Oaxaca, Mexico, to exhibit their collection of 22 paintings inspired by the fiber-optic plug plates of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). This artistic cross-cultural exchange highlights the longstanding international scientific collaborations between Mexico and the US: both UW and UNAM played key roles in the development of SDSS in the 1990s. Through a month-long exhibition and an opening night of artist-scientist talks and panels, we explore how artists engage with and disseminate scientific knowledge through visual expression and emphasize the importance of global collaboration.
We’re hosting an opening night on April 3rd 5-9pm including guided tours, talks, and panel, featuring artists and scientists visiting from Oaxaca. We’re also offering bilingual guided tours every Friday of the exhibition, including the Third Friday April 17th.
We’ll have lots of signage to guide you into the building! Try and find the big metal sculpture that looks like a peanut, and then enter the nearby building with lots of columns. Once inside, go up the brick spiral staircase to find the exhibit.
