“Moods of Ophelia”

    How many times
       Must I lose my way?
    A hundred.
       Perhaps a thousand.

    One painting,
       A hundred turns.
    One painting,
       A thousand destinations.

These words represent one of the many poetry pieces that accompany the paintings and sculptures of my  Moods of Ophelia exhibition that’s to open in the University District on June 15.  The exhibition, inspired from a single seed of inspiration that was passed on to me by a fellow artist (an inspiration of the sort that I’ve come to recognize as “gifting moments”), portrays a journey of experimentation and discovery.

    We shoplift,
       And we loot.
    Then
       Along comes a gift.

From that one simple gift,  Moods of Ophelia was born, forming a tapestry of paintings, drawings, sculpture, poetry, music and video – all sharing common roots, all grown from a common seed.  I’ve attached five images to give you a taste of the artwork that will be on display.

I peered into a well and wondered
How I might draw from its waters.
    Then I saw myself
       Reflected, peering back, full.

Opening Reception:   Friday, June 15, 2012 – 6:00pm to 9:00pm

I’ll be giving an  artist talk at 7:00pm to provide an introduction to some of the artworks and how the exhibition came about.  Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served.

Jesse Link @ Boulevard Grocery

Boulevard Grocery is continuing its coffee bag project, a collaboration between Boulevard Grocery and local artists. Each 1-pound bag sells for $21 with a cut going to the artist, the store, and a charity.

This month’s featured artist is Jesse Link. His style of painting uses aerosols, stencils, textile prints and a bold color palette combined to create beautiful images of animals and a spirit of nature.

Jesse will also be unveiling his series of original painted coffee bags which we fill on the spot with a pound of Seven Coffee Roasters coffee.

We will once again be having a wine tasting, live music by Ryan Shea Smith, and a Hawaiian bakery truck! The Malasadamobile will be parked just around the corner!
